Clément COLLET-BILLON was born in 1980 in Bordeaux (F). Since his studies at the Fine Arts of Perpignan (F), he develops a reflection about painting using new media like photography and internet.
His project is to use photo from internet to make drawings and paintings. This practice creates a new screen, a new distance because some parts are blurred and disturbed, what it produces another vision of erotic pictures.
In 2006/2007, he took part in a lot of group shows in
Bordeaux
and Angouleme (F). In 2006, in a solo show called “The Making of”, in
Bordeaux
, a connection between the different recording and perception screens (video-camera, cameraman, internet, computer screens, glasses and canvas) made a critical and a parody of conceptual art and of bringing process to light. In 2007, he shared a studio in Espace 29 in
Bordeaux
. He has gone on his research about painting and photography in series called “Negator”.
To paint the negative is an interesting experiment about colors, but also a new reflection about the reproduction process. The negative is the matrix, the past of the picture, the phantom of the positive photo.
On these paintings, he wrote sentences with word like “linen”, “lingerie” because these words have a common etymological root.
They refer to used materials and the painted pictures. It could be an answer to the question “Why do you paint women in lingerie?” He exhibited his work in erotic fairs (Brussels 2008, and Strasbourg (F) 2009). Now, he works with “Alternative Gallery” in
Miami
.
